When Sierra* began searching for a home for herself and her children, the urgency was real. Her father’s landlord had made it clear that if Sierra and her family remained in the home, everyone living there could lose their housing. With time running short, Sierra needed a safe, stable place to live.

Bridge of Hope immediately began exploring housing options. We knew that our valued housing partner, Square Roots Collective, owned rental properties in the community where Sierra hoped to remain, but at the time there were no vacancies. While we stayed in touch with them, we continued touring other rentals and even became hopeful about one particular property.

Then came disappointing news. While driving one afternoon, a staff member received a call that the landlord had selected another applicant. But when she arrived home and opened her email, an opportunity was waiting. Square Roots Collective had reached out to let us know that the property we had originally inquired about had unexpectedly become available.

Even more encouraging, because of the positive experience they were having with another Bridge of Hope family in one of their rentals, Square Roots Collective wanted to prioritize Sierra for the opening. Within days, Sierra toured the home and knew it was the right fit. Just one week later, she signed the lease.

Her lease began on the exact day she and her children needed to leave her father’s home. Relieved by the news, her father’s landlord graciously offered flexibility, allowing the family to move at a manageable pace into their new home.

Sierra’s story is a powerful reminder that ending homelessness takes partnership. Because Square Roots Collective was willing to work alongside Bridge of Hope and invest in families seeking stability, a housing crisis became a story of hope and a fresh start.
