How are you building your family’s resilience?

October 25, 2022

What are ways you build resilience for yourself, for your children or for your family? Resilience is defined as the ability to recover from setbacks, but it is so much more than that.

Pearleen* found Bridge of Hope almost a year ago. Through hard work and achievement, her family now has housing stability. She also excels at her job as a medical assistant for Penn Medicine.

However, this summer, as the cost of living rose, she knew she needed to make some additional income to cover their expenses. Then she saw an ad at her office looking for people to teach CPR, and realized that was something she could do!

She enjoys sharing her knowledge, and the flexibility would allow her to work with her family’s schedule. However, Pearleen hit an obstacle. She discovered that in order to teach CPR, she needed to purchase her own equipment, including a dummy, at a cost of almost $2,000.

Did she give up? No.

After talking with Bridge of Hope staff, they helped her find an education grant. The Justamere Foundation was an answer to prayer. They funded not just Pearleen’s CPR equipment, but gave a larger grant so other women in Chester County, served by Bridge of Hope, could expand their earning potential through educational opportunities.

Thanks to your support, Pearleen will be graduating from Bridge of Hope soon, with the skills, knowledge and resilience to maintain stability!
