Sometimes it’s about cheering them on from the sidelines!
October 10, 2024
Joann* has 9-year-old son named Connor* who was recently able to join a soccer team for the first time with support from their Neighboring Volunteers! One of the volunteers found the league and suggested it to Joann. She loved the idea and decided to sign Connor up. Another volunteer took Connor shopping for cleats and shin guards. Joann doesn’t have a car, and she sometimes works on weekend days, when the soccer games are. So, the Neighboring Volunteers pick Connor up, take him to the game, and cheer him on from the sidelines.
One volunteer said this: “He has the look of pure joy on his face on the soccer field. His smile says it all. It has really been wonderful to see him be part of a team for a sport that he loves so much! This week he received a medal and he truly wore it with pride.”
We love this great example of relationship building between a family and their Neighboring Volunteers. Sometimes it’s about cheering on from the sidelines!
